Dr. Robert Johnson grew up in Utah; receiving his undergraduate degree from Utah State University. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry. While in dental school, Dr. Johnson gained respect for the role of anesthesia in providing quality oral care, particularly to patients with special needs, pediatric patients, and patients who are dental or needle phobic.

Dr. Johnson continued his education and training, completing a three-year anesthesia residency at NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. During this training, Dr. Johnson provided anesthesia services in the hospital setting for a wide range of procedures including general surgery, ENT, pediatrics, OB-GYN, plastic surgery, trauma, orthopedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, bariatrics, and other specialties. He also completed rotations in internal medicine, emergency response, and surgical/medical intensive care. As part of his residency, Dr. Johnson spent eight months in dental office settings providing anesthesia for pediatric full-mouth rehabilitation, oral and maxillofacial surgeries, dental implants, and routine dental care for patients with special needs.
